Professor Aaron Fenster from Robarts Research Institute, Western University Visited APM
On October 25, 2024, the Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology (APM) of Chinese Academy of Sciences held the 65th lecture in the " Session of Wang T.C. Lecture". Professor Terry Peters from Robarts Research Institute, Western University, was invited and gave a lecture entitled "3D Ultrasound for lmage-guided Interventions and point-of-care diagnostics". The report was chaired by Researcher Shizhen Chen.
Professor Aaron Fenster is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Academy of Health Sciences, a recipient of the Order of Ontario, and the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Imaging at Western University in Canada. He is also the founder of the Robarts Research Institute, one of the largest medical imaging research institutions in North America, and one of the inventors of 3D medical ultrasound imaging technology. Professor Fenster has published over 400 papers in major academic journals and holds 53 patents in related technologies (over 30 of which have been licensed). He has been recognized by the International Organization of Medical Physics as one of the top 50 most influential medical physicists in the world. His work has had a significant impact on the fields of medical imaging for cancer diagnosis, minimally invasive interventions, and surgical navigation using medical imaging.
In this report, Professor Fenster first introduced the fundamental concepts of 3D ultrasound technology. He then thoroughly demonstrated the significant applications and research value of 3D ultrasound in clinical cancer diagnosis, particularly in breast cancer, from the perspective of practical clinical applications. Finally, Professor Fenster envisioned the future integration of 3D ultrasound technology with machine learning, aiming to leverage AI technology to achieve faster and higher-quality 3D ultrasound imaging.
Professor Fenster's insightful presentation left a lasting impression on the faculty and students present. After the report, he engaged in an in-depth discussion with the audience, further enhancing everyone's understanding and knowledge of 3D ultrasound technology.
