Recently, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging System, an innovative medical device developed by the Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology, has been approved by the National Medical Products Administration to be listed on the market. This is the world's first clinical multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging system approved for use in gas imaging, and it solves the problem of non-invasive and radiation-free accurate detection of lung diseases in the clinic.

Lung diseases seriously threaten the life and health of Chinese people. At present, the commonly used lung imaging examination equipment, such as X-ray machine, CT and PET, all have ionizing radiation; magnetic resonance detection equipment has no ionizing radiation, but cannot image the cavity of the lung. The combination of the multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging system approved this time and the medical xenon gas generator approved in 2020 solves the above problems, realizes the non-invasive, non-radiation detection and quantitative visual evaluation of lung structure and function, and provides new instruments and new methods for the early screening and treatment evaluation of lung diseases.

Multi-nuclear lung gas magnetic resonance imaging system

After more than ten years of research, the research team of Zhou Xin at the Ultrasensitive Magnetic Resonance Research Group of the Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology has achieved comprehensive breakthroughs in hyperpolarization technology for gas magnetic resonance signal enhancement, ultra-fast lung gas magnetic resonance imaging technology, and    human multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging technology. The human multi-nuclear lung gas magnetic resonance imaging system developed by the team is composed of two core devices: "medical xenon gas generator (model: verImagin VIP510)" and "human multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging system (model: uMR 780(Xe)"). It effectively solves the problem of weak magnetic resonance imaging signal caused by low gas density in lung detection, realizes the expansion of clinical mono-nuclear to multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging system, and makes the lung cavity image diagnosis from "unwatchable" to "watchable".

This research has been supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China National Major Scientific Research Instrument and Equipment Development Special Project (recommended by ministries and commissions), the Scientific Research Instrument and Equipment Development Project and Achievement Transfer and Transformation Key Special Project (Hongguang Special Project) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the XPLORER PRIZE. In September 2020, the core equipment "medical xenon gas generator" obtained the world's first medical device registration certificate of its kind; on August 16, 2023, the multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging system was approved for market, becoming the world's first clinical multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging product that can be used for gas imaging. At present, the system has been used in more than 10 Grade-A tertiary hospitals and scientific research institutions, such as Beijing 301 Hospital, Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, Wuhan Tongji Hospital, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, and Hubei Cancer Hospital.

Currently, our team is working on the research and development of a new generation of clinical multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging system that can image more nuclei, and strives to maintain the international leading edge in China's independent innovation of scientific research instruments, clinical multi-nuclear magnetic resonance imaging instrumentation technology and applications.
