On July 24, 2024, Professor Dan Ma from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University was invited by the Ultrasensitive Magnetic Resonance Research Group to give a lecture entitled "Quantitative MR Fingerprinting, translating advanced imaging technology into clinical impact". The lecture was hosted by Professor Shizhen Chen.

Professor Ma is the first author of the seminal Magnetic Resonance (MR) Fingerprinting paper published in Nature. She makes significant contributions to quantitative MR Fingerprinting and clinical applications. She received the Young Investigator Award in 2016 and served as the Chair of the Quantitative MR Group in the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. Professor Ma's team at Case Western Reserve University focuses on developing novel quantitative MR Fingerprinting technologies and clinical translation, leveraging these methods to provide non-invasive, rapid, and comprehensive information for clinical decision-making.

In the report, Professor Ma primarily discussed the research work on translating imaging technology into clinical applications through quantitative MR Fingerprinting technology. Starting from the basic principles of magnetic resonance fingerprinting, Professor Ma provided an overview of the research background and demonstrated the effects of 2D and 3D MR Fingerprinting scans. The discussion included the introduction of quantitative MR Fingerprinting multi-parametric mapping for analyzing complex biological structures and showcased its robustness in different magnetic field strengths and radio frequency fields. This research, encompassing comprehensive scanning to quantitative labeling and standardized operations across multiple sites, brings unprecedented convenience and consistency to medical research and practice. For instance, in the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases such as brain tumors, the combination of this research with image analysis technology significantly enhances the precision of lesion detection, providing strong support for clinical decision-making.

Professor Ma's insightful and accessible presentation left a deep impression on the audience. After the report, Professor Ma engaged in in-depth discussions with teachers and students, further enhancing their understanding of quantitative MR Fingerprinting technology and its applications.
